Position Overview
Our Lakewood yard is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Lumber Cutter to join our team. This role involves cutting engineered wood products—such as LVL, PSL, LSL, and other specialty beams—to meet precise customer requirements using chainsaws and associated tools. The perfect applicant will have a background in a lumberyard or construction environment, with a firm grasp of the need for precision, safety, and collaboration. This is a full-time role, scheduled Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, with occasional overtime as needed. Primary tasks encompass the following key duties:
Core Duties
- Safely handle chainsaws and additional cutting machinery to trim and dimension engineered lumber.
- Accurately adhere to detailed cutting lists and client specifications.
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance on saws, blades, and equipment to ensure safe functioning.
- Arrange, prepare, and tag cut materials for delivery or customer collection.
- Help with truck loading and unloading and contribute to maintaining an orderly yard.
- Comply with all Ganahl Lumber safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) mandates.
- Coordinate with the Yard Foreman and Sales Team to guarantee order accuracy and timely fulfillment.
Requirements
- Previous experience operating chainsaws or comparable cutting tools in a yard or construction setting is advantageous.
- Excellent attention to detail and a dedication to safe working methods.
- Capability to lift and maneuver heavy lumber (up to 75 pounds).
- Consistent attendance and a cooperative, proactive approach.
- Skill in reading and understanding work orders, measurements, and diagrams.
- Fundamental mathematical abilities and precision in measuring (including fractions and decimals).
Working Conditions
- Outdoor yard setting—subject to weather conditions, noise, and dust.
- Mandatory use of PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
